I absolutely love when the seasons change. To me that means a wardrobe change and a color palette change when it comes to makeup. As much as I love vampy plum lip colors, the corals and pinks of the warmer months have my heart. Today I’m going to share how I get my lips spring and summer ready!
Step 1: Exfoliate
This step is super important, because NOBODY likes their lips to be dry and flaky. A smooth base is necessary to make your lipstick look amazing. Right now my favorite product to exfoliate my lips with is the L’Oreal Pure Sugar Scrub & Unclog. I prefer this because its a 2-in-1: it can be used for your face or your lips! You can also DIY a lip scrub with coconut oil, brown sugar, and honey. There are tons of recipes for DIY scrubs on Pinterest!
Step 2: Hydrate & Protect
You can use pretty much any lip balm to hydrate your lips, but not all lip balms will protect your lips. So many people preach about protecting your skin with SPF, but most don’t tell you that you also need to protect your lips. Thats where Herpecin L comes in. This product does multiple things: hydrates, relieves chapped lips, protects your lips from the sun, and helps prevent and heal cold sores. Most lip balms that contain sun screen leave a filmy feeling on your lips making it hard to apply a lip color. Herpecin L doesn’t do that! It’s the perfect way to hydrate and protect your lips during the warmer months of the year! You can purchase Herpecin L at your local Walmart!
Step 3: Prime
This step is totally optional, but really helpful if you suffer from creamier lip colors bleeding outside of your lip line when its hot outside. If I don’t wear a lip primer I almost have to wear a satin or matte during spring or summer. Glossy lips are a no-no for me without a primer! One of my favorites from the drugstore is the NYX Lip Primer!
Step 4: Line & Apply
Lastly, choose your lip color! Exfoliating and hydrating your lips will make it possible for you to wear anything from a matte lip color to a simple tinted lip balm, and your lips will look amazing! I love clear liners like the Pixi Beauty Invisible Smudge-Stopper because you can use it with any lip color! Wet N Wild’s Mega Last Lipstick in Coral-ine is one of my staple lip colors for spring and summer. I’ll share some more of my favorite spring lip colors on the blog soon!
